Tablet Pining -UPDATE

Mon Sep 21, 2009, 5:10 AM
Sorta. More on the topic of me on the I Sorta Wanna Tablet But Uncertain If I Wanna Tablet fence. I definitely seems like something that would help me get over my fear of coloring on the computer...but I'm the also the same person who has been delaying for four years in getting better colored pencils cause "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. Part of me is a thrifty state of mind, wanting to stick with what I have, while part of me is "mmmmm...would be fun ta try this device."

Let's put it this way, I just 'splurged' on a 1.0 and a 8.0 ink pen for just under $5.

So this weekend I'm staring at tablets and seeing if there happens to be any good deals on Ebay. Is there any recommendations out there for a fellow such as myself who wants a basic (aka: affordable) tablet I can play with to get into the compy coloring waters?

Or should I just focus on improving with the mediums I have, or even invest in other mediums? The last revolutions I had in mediums was A) getting actual ink pens to outline my sketches and B) discovering the nifty "I'm Feeling Lucky" button in Picasa. I could stop by Micheals next week...but I digress, is there any advice in general ya want to throw my way that's festering at the edge of yer mind?

UPDATE! - First off, thanks immensely for lending your input for this topic. I don't even know what led me to this tangent, but all of your points of view were quite useful for reaching a decision.

I had decided on a Bamboo Fun, until I realized that the Graphire4 was about the same as that, except an early generation, so I started poking for one on eBay. I saw a possibility to get one for about $20 and leapt upon it...which failed miserably due to someone's exceptional maximum bid.

I decided to just cave and get the Bamboo Fun once again, when ~Kyrahlynn poked me on IM and asked if I'd seen this tablet...which happened to be at the exact price I had written down as an "in my dreams" price for a tablet. To say the least I stalked down and caught the deal before I could change my mind. So, I've bought an unopened tablet that contains no risk of breaking the bank, and I think this shall turn out well.

Thanks again everyone fer dropping advice and have a great autumn as I head forth into this busy season.

Almost Autumn (the Time For Grilled PB Sandwiches)

Mon Sep 7, 2009, 3:38 PM
And that means school has started up, which means this is the time where I say something about "oh no, I need to limit my Internet use and I ought to draw and make my schedule and..." well, you've heard that all before. If not in my entry, dozen of others.

I will say that there are sketchies and comics forthcoming when you least expect it.

Also, I'm graduating at the end of this semester...whatever that means, not certain yet.

And that's all I have, really. But I should promote an utterly snazzy desplay of Fake-Movie-Trailerage based on the book "Guards! Guards!" by Terry Pratchett. It's made by the ever-ingenious animating fiend :iconnot-quite-normal: and was her big summer project and you should check it out right now. (That, and I lent some voices to random side characters. w00t!)

And I must also commend :iconmasikarain: for blindsiding me with a most awesome slice of comicking involving Geo and Ronts in a Very Beliable Situation. *snickers*

On a related note, I tried grilling a peanut butter sandwich today. ^^;

Obligatory District 9 Entry

Mon Aug 17, 2009, 5:57 PM
Yes, everything you've heard is correct. This is the most absolute coolest movie you shall ever see this summer. Of course, by this point I sound like one of the mindless lemmings. If that is so, I was the lemming in the audience, paws in the air, w00ting at the tentacled maws of alien sci-fi action yelling for a blasted character to get off his tail and use the freakin' mechasuit, before hearing about all this hype. This is a movie that, even if you read the hype, it won't matter, 'cause you will be surprised by the level of quality in both story and action. Personally, I luff action, but not enough to fully enjoy something like G.I. Joe and Transformers. No, I need a movie to literially having me caring about the characters enough to yell "blast those guys to cherry pudding NOW!"

That being said, this movie is impressively violent. How so? That would be spoiling. I'll just say that its choreographed in such a way that though I cringe at gory violence, it pulled it off so that instead of me hiding under my seat, I realized what had happened after the fact and went "whooooooooaaa. That was shweet!" Perhaps I should find this disconcerting that District 9 brought me to that level...still can't find it in my heart to dislike this film in any way. It is a dark and gritty action tale that is great fun to watch and, above all, has heart. The dark humor is blasted well played too...anyone want tossed pork?

I'm so fanboying Chris Jr.

Shouldn't you be saying something about art?

Besides, "Well, due to procrast..."

Point taken.

The Edge o' Summer

Fri Aug 14, 2009, 3:45 AM
Gettin' to those sketchies eventually. Need to organize my time so I can get art done before the school year starts and then everything goes off a cliff of Busy.

Jus' postin' to say, if anyone catches the 20K mark I shall throw them (or their character, rather, unless you actually shall send me a photo of yerself to interpret as I wish...eep, scary...) into a comic format idea that is festering in my mind.

Boring journal entry is borning.

Sketchies of Some Denomination

Mon Jul 20, 2009, 11:11 PM
HAI GUYZ.

Keepin' this brief. I'm gonna be home in a week or so. And I want to get myself into sketching again when I get back. (The difference this time is since ArtSlam I ACTUALLY CAN SKETCH RELATIVELY WELL. Well...in relativity...not gonna over evaluate that.)

So since there still like...two requests from last summer hanging about my docket, give me something for my muse to work on after being on vacation (and making fun of my sunburns) for the past three weeks...and week in the future.

So, yar. Jus' likkle primitive sketchies. So show me what ye got. 'Tis almost August. You know, that warm boggy month that tends to slobber on the shoes.

*tip tea*

Oh...you want to know what I've been up to for the last few months? Urm...

I think this about covers it.
